Jal Mahal ( The Water Palace ), set against the serene Man Sagar lake in Jaipur, is a wonder in sandstone. Built in the Mughal and Rajput style of architecture, the Jal Mahal is a five storied building, of which four floors remain under water when the lake is full. The Nahargarh hills at the backdrop, combined with its architectural grandeur, give the palace a majestic aura.

Things to do:

The best time to visit is during October-March, preferably during the monsoons as it enhances the visual splendor of the sandstone. In addition to the architectural, historical and cultural importance of the palace, the lake also attracts migratory birds, hence making it a choice destination for birdwatchers.
Boating is a popular activity here, and visitors especially love enjoying the sunsets.

Getting there:

Transport facilities are well established in the city. There is a domestic airport at 7km from the main city at Sanganer, and an international airport 10km away. You can also visit other locations in Jaipur easily using taxi services.

Trivia:

Jal Mahal was believed to be built during famines. Thus the whole structure was visible to the public when it was first built.
